Life for a parent whose child often becomes aggressive or violent when dysregulated is likely to be emotionally exhausting. Often deeply misunderstood by family, friends and even professionals, much well-meaning advice can lead to further dysregulation and to parents feeling shame and hopelessness. And, as nerves get ever more jangly, it becomes understandably harder for the parent to maintain their own calm during the storms, leading to entrenched patterns, further dysregulation and the whole family “walking on eggshells”.
In this live workshop, we’ll explore how we can accompany our children through these incredibly challenging moments and what is actually going on for them. We’ll talk about the fight-or-flight response and what we can do to help our children come back to a place of safety and trust. We’ll think about how our own nervous systems are responding and what we need to do to stay grounded and build our capacity to hold space, whilst also taking good care of ourselves. And, we’ll look at how we can create lasting change through deepening our connection and relationship with our child, helping them acquire the tools and confidence they need to navigate the ups and downs of life.
You’ll leave the workshop feeling reassured and more confident. You’ll have a deeper understanding of what is happening for your child and for you, with practical tools you can start to use immediately, along with long-term practices to bring to your daily life.
This workshop brings together my own lived experience of this, my training in mindfulness, and my work with many other parents. It is based on a compassionate and relational approach to moving through conflict. It is also an invitation to let go of any shame or hopelessness and instead, to delve into this incredibly challenging but ultimately fulfilling work in a supportive and non-judgmental space.
The workshop lasts 90 minutes
The price is £25 (this includes access to the workshop recording)
You will also receive a PDF after the workshop outlining the tools and practices from the workshop
